Introduction The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of those games that changed gaming forever, a cornerstone of what an open world game should be like if you will. Even after almost a decade, this game is still thriving with new content being introduced via mods and its popularity hasn't waned at all. It builds up upon the freedom that the player has to experience all the content, it's well-crafted lore/story and the possibilities of shaping one's play-style to their liking. One of the best games out there, if not the best one.
Gameplay At its core, Skyrim's gameplay is basic. The player traverses the breathtaking lands of Skyrim while pursuing their goals, whenever those are a quest, killing some bandits or trying to become a werewolf/vampire. They do this by swinging a sword or casting spells, however, the true magic is that the player can build up any kind of character they can think about: A necromancer, a magic archer, a warrior with a shield that fights with its fist, cryomancers, vampire assassins, Dragonborn and more. Hell, you can even play as a bandit yourself. Some Notes Optimization is good.
When comparing this version to the enhanced version, there is a trade-off that needs to be taken into account. The basic version has more mods available and it's the biggest weakness are that it does have more bugs, glitches and a harder time running long quantities of mods. The enhanced version, in contrast, lacks some of the best mods and is a clear attempt at generating more revenue( they are hiding the base version after all). Overall, I would recommend the new version for newcomers and those that don't like mods while the base version is more geared towards core fans and those that want to tailor their experience. Sum up + Has aged well. + Lots of playable races.
+ Custom leveling system. + Insane role-playing potential. + All guilds and their quests are great. + Mods can change the game entirely. + Beautiful world with interesting lore and story.
+ Huge amount of content, enough to play for a long time. + Emphasis on player's freedom, do what you want when you want to. + Everything in it excels music, creatures, atmosphere, immersion and much more. + One of the biggest game ever releases, something every gamer should play at least once.
Repetitive dungeons. Suffers from glitches and bugs.
Boss fights are lacking and at a times, boringly long. Can have a hard time handling large quantities of mods. AI is not intelligent, search for the appropriate mod to fix it. Conclusion Skyrim is a single-player game that it's very popular after almost ten years and there is a reason for that.
It excels in all of its aspects and has become something truly special thanks to its community. Players keep making more content even today and there is always a reason to come back, play some more and still have a great time. It doesn't get stale or boring and even if it does somehow, more mods can always solve the problem. One of my all-time favorite games that I had already beat on console numerous times, it is something I recommend every gamer give a chance to it and to those that love exploring open-world games and role-playing.
